We report what we believe to be the first Yb:SrF 2 regenerative femtosecond amplifier. The regenerative amplifier produces 325-fs pulses at 100-Hz repetition rate with an energy before compression of 1.4 mJ. The interest of Yb:SrF 2 in such regenerative amplifiers and its complementarity to its well-known isotype Yb:CaF 2 is also discussed.
