It has been the focal point of multiple theories. This paper discusses four of those theories: the QP as a counter to the oblique force of the flexor digitorum longus (FDL), QP as a pronator of the foot, the QP as a plantarflexor of the lesser digits and lastly the QP as a stabilizer of the lumbrical muscles.
