On 1 July 2013, Croatia became the 28th member state of the European Union. Although independence was proclaimed more than twenty years ago, the political discourse surrounding the prolonged negotiations was dominated consistently by accusations of clientelism, apparent democratic deficit as well as extensive corruption. more » ... the post-socialist development paths show significant differences, not only in the characteristics of democracy but also in terms of established economic systems. This master thesis can be unterstood as an attempt to analyze the post-socialist development path of the Republic of Croatia. Political and economic reforms were discussed in the context of the essay "Neoliberalism, embedded neoliberalism and neo-corporatism: Socialist legacies, transnational integration and the diversity of Eastern European capitalisms" written by Dorothee Bohle and Béla Greskovits (2007).
