The current data on the highest energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) is discussed and an understanding of the origin of these particles is reviewed. New and proposed facilities for measurement of UHECRs, neutrinos and γ-rays can interestingly and significantly constrain the physics of the source origin. Cosmic magnetic field strengths are the most uncertain physical parameter.doi:10.1017/s0074180900080864 fatcat:mboztqkq5bfajb7pvcb6ifijni
