Considerations on the autonomous phonographic production and the different signification of the notion of independence Abstract: This paper presents results of the doctoral research entitled "Autonomous experiences in the Brazilian music industry of the 1950's and 1960's: the labels Elenco, Festa and Forma". Considering that the representations and meanings attributed to the independent phonographic production assumed different hues over the configurations and stages of development of the Brazilian phonographic industry, this work aims to briefly highlight some relevant experiences of the autonomous production, seeking to better understand the processes and historical events that contributed to the formation of representations and meanings that the notion of "independence" has taken on the symbolic field of music and phonographic production. Through a brief analysis in perspective of the phenomenon and the relationships between large and small recording labels, we intend to place into question the polysemy of the terms "independent/autonomous" and problematize the discourses and senses of action of producers in their activities.
