The liver therapeutic, thiopronine (2-mercaptopropionylglycine, MPG), was administered to ketotic cows. When 50-100ml of NPG was initravenously administered alone or in combination with some other therapeutics to these cows, recovery rate was 96.0% and 88.6%, respectively. The result of the dose response test indicated that the optimum volume of MPG to a ketotic cow was 50 or 100ml at a time, which was given five times or less. The therapeutic effect of MPG types of ketosis caws, was lower on

In ketotic cows in which prognosis was good, there was a significant decreases a (p <0.05) in S-GOT, CPK,NEFA, BUN, and A/G, and a significant increase (p <0.05) in TP, Ca, and Glu. In cows in which prognosis was poor, there was no improvement in any parameter and the Ca level characteristically decreased. MPG tretment seemed to induce precipitation of cellular metabolism, activation of enzyme activity of carbonate metabolism, and acceleration of lipid and protein metabolism of the liver cells.
