Lithology of Tertiary beds in Kozjansko, Eastern Slovenia

Kratka vsebina Oligocenske in miocenske plasti na Kozjanskem, kot delu Paratetide, so razvite v razponu od kiscellija do panonija, z dvema hiatusoma, ki obsegata prvi ottnangijsko in karpatijsko stopnjo ter del badenija, drugi pa kraj{e obdobje med badenijem in sarmatijem. V kiscelliju so se odlagale psevdosote{ke plasti, ki so razvite kot bazalni konglomerat, pe{~enjak, glina, lapor in premog, tem pa sledi laporna glina (sivica). more » ... ter njihovimi in riolitnimi tufi. Egerijska stopnja je zastopana s peski, pe{~enjaki, meljevci, glinavci, laporji in tufi (gov{ke plasti), za eggenburgij pa so zna~ilne plasti kremenovega in glavkonitnega pe{~enjaka (maceljski pe{~enjak), peska, konglomerata ter poredko tufa. Najbolj pestro so na Kozjanskem razvite plasti badenijske starosti, znane kot la{ke plasti. Zanje so razen laporjev in meljevcev zna~ilni masivi litotamnijskega apnenca ter plasti biokalkarenita in kalcirudita z morsko favno. Poredko so zastopani tudi tufi, ki so bili v teh plasteh novo odkriti. V sarmatiju je morsko okolje sedimentacije zamenjalo braki~no in sladkovodno. Transgresijsko odlo-'enim konglomeratom slede peski, laporji in pe{~enjaki ter redke plasti lapornatih apnencev. Klasti~ni sedimenti nastopajo tudi v panoniju. Abstract Oligocene and Miocene beds in Kozjansko, SW part of the Parathetys region, were developed in the time span ranging from Kiscellian to Pannonian, with two emersion phases -the first in Ottnangian, Karpatian and partially Badenian, and the second in Badenian and Sarmatian. Kiscellian sedimentation started with basal conglomerate, which was followed by sand, marl with coal seams, and marly clay (sivica). Clastic sedimentation was accompanied by volcanic activity that produced andesites, dacites, and andesitic, dacitic and rhyolitic tuffs. Egerian deposits include sands, sandstones, siltstones, claystones, marls and tuffs (the Govce beds). Eggenburgian deposits are characterised by quartztoze and gluconitic sandstones (the Macelj sandstones) and conglomerates. Badenian deposits are among the most widespread in occurrence and the most diverse in development. They are known as the La{ko beds. Marls and siltstones predominate over massive lithothamnian limestone, calcareous-quartztoze conglomerate and biocalcarenite. They contain marine fauna. Badenian tuffs have been newly discovered on the territory of Kozjansko. In Sarmatian, the environment changed from marine to brakish and freshwater. Transgressively deposited conglomerate is overlain by sand, marl, sandstone and scarce beds of marly limestone. Clastic sedimentation continued in the Pannonian time, too.
