An isononane boiling at 135.2° C was t entatively identified as 2,6-dimethylheptane at the time of its isolation from a midcontinent petroleum. 2,6-Dimethylheptane has been synthesized by means of the Grignard reaction and the propert ies of a purified fraction compared with those of the isononane from petroleum.
