The present status of high peak power lasers is overviewed. The princeple of chirped pulse amplification is briefly introduced. The high power lasers including glass, Ti: sapphire and Cr: LiSAF lasers are summarized. The frequency conversion of ultrashort pulses is described . Finally the possible application of chirped pulse amplification to the non-storage lasers like excimer and dye lasers is proposed to extract a full available energy.
