AbstractMicroglia have an emerging role in development of tau pathology after amyloid plaque deposition in Alzheimer's disease, although it has not been definitively shown. We hypothesize that plaque-associated activated microglia accelerate tau propagation via enhanced phagocytosis and secretion of tau.
