The inclusion of Matua prairie grass (Bromus willdenowii Kunth) as a pure sward mto grazing systems involving dairy, bull beef and integrated dairy bull beef systems is investigated using a linear programming model. The ability to test in the model alternative animal production patterns and therefore intake of dry matter throughout the year has allowed definition of the most profitable systems for Matua. The results highlight the need to consider animal production patterns and pasture
