Third Bielefeld Colloquium on Southeast Asia "The Interpretative Study of Java"

The colloquium was held within the Southeast Asian Re search and Training Programme of the Sociology of Develop ment Research Centre at the University of Bielefeld and could convene because of the financial assistance of the Volkswagen Foundation and the cooperation of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) that made its seminar facilities available for its deliberations. more » ... a number of their colleagues who are actively engaged in the study of Javanese culture and society. These colleagues consisted of a core-group of seven scholars who presented papers. They were Prof. The deliberations were furthermore attended by Dr. Wittwer (Volkswagen Founda tion) and eight graduate students from the Southeast Asian Research and Training Programme. With so many competent people convening, the colloquium became a very intensive exercise in the exchange of thought It was therefore a good and gratifying idea to have built in ample time for informal discussions that were held in the evening of the first day at the home of Prof. Evers, where virtually all participants and attending students showed up, and during the second on a walk to and at lunch and later at Dr. Mulder's apartment.
