A simple spectrophotometric method was developed and validated for the quantification determination of carbamazepine in tablet formulation. The method is based on formation of nitrosamine by a specific reaction of carbamazepine with nitrite under acid condition. Carbamazepine undergoes nitrosation forming greenish yellow product and the absorbance measured at 417 nm. All the optimum conditions are established.
