The Present study investigates the Effect of Indian Medicinal herb, Phyllanthus nirurii against WSSV infection in Penaeus indicus post larvae. To determine the antiviral activity of P.nirurii, the shrimps were treated invivo (orally with feed suspension) at concentration of 100, 150 and 200 mg/kg of P.nirurii incorporated with commercial pellet feed, respectively. In the present study, anti-WSSV activity of P.nirurii incorporated diet by in vivo methods showed significant antiviral activity.

The parameters examined in this experiment include mortality rate, survival rate, Immunological parameters (Total Haemocyte Count (THC), Total Phenoloxidase (PO) activity), antiviral activity and protective efficacy of P.nirurii. THC and PO activity showed significant increase in P.nirurii exposed groups. Eventhough P.nirurii showed significant antiviral activity and protection against WSSV mortalities were observed in P.nirurii exposed groups. These results strongly indicate that administration of P.nirurii extract along with feed diet enhances immunity of the shrimp and provides partial protection against WSSV infection.
