The objective of this article was to analyze the media treatment given by the main printed local newspapers in relation to public security policies. The role of the media and its particularities was investigated by presenting the news and reports on public safety at the national and local levels, and it was also investigated how the media influence the population and managers of the public area. We observe and report on issues that can help improve media approaches to public safety programs by avoiding the spread of the culture of fear and by providing reflections on those areas that may assist public managers' decisions in disseminating the results of government actions . As a result we understand the importance of the role of the press and printed newspapers in the dissemination of public security actions, the phenomenon of violence and crime, as well as the probability of spreading the so-called culture of fear.
