In this study, we explored the microstructure and slurry erosion properties of Stellite 6 cladding deposited on AISI316 and AISI410 stainless steel substrates using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. Optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were employed to analyze the microstructure similar to the erosion mechanisms. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was performed to identify the phases

The coated samples exhibited higher erosion resistance than bare steel and this feature can postpone the failure and extend the life time of industrial component. Furthermore, a noticeable corrosion influence on the erosion behavior of the coating was identified. A higher erosion resistance of the coating was obtained for the AISI 316 substrate because of its better response to the corrosive attack. Finally, a brittle mode of the erosion behavior was detected for the Stellite coating.
