Sensornets are often deployed into inaccessible, dangerous, or changeable physical environments. Centralised control and management is generally infeasible. Autonomous, self-configuring, and self-managing mechanisms are required to provide a suitable infrastructure which reliably supports distributed applications, hiding any underlying instability.
