The present state of the pollution of the Seto Inland Sea is described as an example of pollution of a confined aquatic environment. A more detailed water quality survey on each organic pollutant should be carried out regularly to clarify the dispersion pattern. This is also necessary to ascertain the assimilation capacity of this aquatic environment and to clarify the permissible limits of the use of industrial chemicals*.
