The nature of the transportation system is changing due to the large-scale innovations in transportation tools and information technologies. The transportation system has gone through three stages, from the traditional stage centered on road infrastructure to the Intelligent Transportation stage centered on the information, and to the Smart Transportation era with intelligent interconnection and comprehensive perception of "human-vehicle-road-environment". more » ... is Intelligent Transportation System, which is origin from United States in the early 1990s. And then IBM innovate the concept of Smart Transportation in 2009. Smart Transportation is based on Intelligent Transportation, with an integration of high-tech IT technologies including IoT, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Mobile Internet, and Blockchain. It gathers multi-source traffic information and then provides extensive traffic services by advanced technology application and real data collection. Statistics models, data mining and other data processing technologies are widely used to accurately mine traffic demands and forecast the systemic and real-time of traffic, so as to improve interactivity of information exchange and extensiveness of services of traffic. Big data is an important element to improve social productivity. Big data obtained from traffic cards, GPS locations, video monitors, traffic sensors, mobile phone signals, Internet and social media and sources from other ways can provide data governance and data services for travel, construction, management and operation of urban smart transportation. By the support of Big Data, Cloud Computing, Mobile Internet, IoT, AI, Blockchain and other technologies, the traffic construction, traffic management, traffic operation and travel services will eventually evolve into an intelligent and living body. The main applications of Smart Transportation driven by Big Data include smart travel services, vehicle infrastructure cooperative, smart traffic management, smart traffic monitoring & safety, smart parking, smart bus transportation, smart logistics, etc. (1) Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is the mainstream trend of urban transportation services in the future, which make personal ownership of travel tools changed towards consumption of travel as a service. Guided by travel experience, it integrates all kinds of transportation modes into a unified service platform, which analyzes users' travel demands and provides corresponding solutions based on Big Data technology, and there will be one app which is responsible for all affairs of travel planning, route planning, booking, purchase and payment. (2) Accurate, forward-looking, and dynamic smart traffic management centered on Big Data will become a reality, and smart traffic management puts more emphasis on governance rather than management in the future. Through real-time collection and analysis of mobile phone signals, traffic sensors, location data, social media and other big data, combined with AI, IoT and other technologies, it can dynamically perceive the entire traffic network, and deduce the temporal and spatial distribution of the future traffic, as well as predict and detect network congestion nodes, then it will be used for traffic flow guidance. The cycle of perception-deduction-control-service-perception will be regular and continuous, creating an efficient, intensive and systematic optimal urban traffic environment. (3) Vehicle infrastructure cooperative technology based on V2X communication, Perception, Cloud Computing and other technologies is developing towards the direction of adaptive control and automatic driving. With the information obtained from vehicles and roads, the cooperation between vehicles and infrastructure is realized based on the interaction of vehicles and roads.
