An N-acyliminium ion approach towards the synthesis of isoindolo [2,1-a] quinolines by an intramolecular process is described. During the course of our work concerning the synthesis of new fused polyheterocyclic compounds with potential therapeutic interest we described in previous papers the use of an N-acyliminium ion in the key cyclization step 1-3 .
