Residual stress and distortion in AC3A aluminum castings by grinding Shigeru YONETANI*, Hisakimi NOTOYA** Kosei SHIBATA*** and Yuzo TAKATSUJI** Eutectic Al-Si alloy castings AC3A annealed for stress relief were wet ground by the use of a quick stop grinding tester equipping a SiC-type grinder. Effects of grinding parameters and plastic deformation on the residual stress in the castings were evaluated from working conditions and residual stress by the X-ray method. more » ... ubsurface were measured by the grid method. The maximum residual stress in the ground layer and the depth of tensile stress layer increase according to the depth of cut and work speed. The plastic strain in the grinding path changes at different working conditions.
