Digital Recording Characteristics of Co-O Thin Film with Carbon Protective Layer

Obliquely deposited Co-O thin film with carbon protective layer has been developed. In spite of the spacing loss because of its protective layer, its output level is about 5dB higher than hi -S ME tape, and CNR is about 4dB higher at a recording density of 105 kEPI,. Digital recording characteristics of it were measured by a drum-tester with a ringtype MIG(metal in gap) head.
