ABSTRACT: From the work Junky, a reflection on the beat way of life is presented. Through the character Bill, Burroughs does with naturality an indirect criticism to the capitalist society of his time, the exacerbated rationality and the American way of life ideal. The exaltation of rationality, fruit of Western philosophy, was a motive of contempt of the body. Burroughs, along with other beats, shouts for freedom in front of the prohibitionist society of then and for the holiness of the body. Criticism comes not through arguments, but Bill's own life, marked by drugs, is a protest against society. This life posture is close to some philosophical currents of existentialism that are mentioned in the article.
