Excessive and non-specific use of broadspectrum antibiotics has converted Enterococci from a normal gut commensal to opportunistic nosocomial as well as community acquired pathogen. The high level resistance to Aminoglycosides (HLAR) is long known and constantly increasing problem. Concomitant Vancomycin resistance (VRE) reduces the treatment options and increases potential risk of Vancomycin resistant gene transfer to Staphylococcus aureus.
