... eing and its environment. This article emphasises the powerful influence of science and technology in forming our current society, and the need to direct its development. The importance of nanoscience and nanotechnologies are mentioned as an important factor in determining the current changes in our society, and we postulate the urgent intervention of society in order to direct them based on a philosophical reflection. Resum En aquest treball s'explica, de forma molt concreta, que les conferències, particularment en l'àmbit acadèmic i educatiu, pertanyen a un gènere que cal analitzar des d'una perspectiva semiòtica. Això és degut a la complexitat del gènere que s'evidencia tant pel que fa a l'organització textual com a l'exposició, o el que és el mateix: l'acció conferencial. Al mateix temps, els recursos tecnològics (cibernètics) que s'utilitzen àmpliament a les presentacions, també mostren la complexitat del gènere. S'arriba a la conclusió que sense un coneixement sobre la complexitat semiòtica i tecnològica de la conferència, el disseny i la realització d'aquesta no compleix les expectatives del conferenciant ni del públic, siguin aquests participants en l'acció conferencial científics o educadors.
