At the Crossroads of the East and the West: The Problem of Borderzone in Russian and Central European Cultures
The focus of the paper is the essay "Variations on the Theme of Central Europe" by a Serbian author Danilo Kiš (1986). This essay raises the question of Central Europe as a special geographical, cultural and mental area. The author of the essay considers this essay as a "mental map" of the region and identifies the key components of it (according to Kish): these are the elements of the triad "human – space – time" and the most important representatives of the Central European cultural canon.
