Hormonal and metabolic factors signal the status of energy balance to hypothalamic nuclei. Obesity is characterized by neuronal, metabolic and hormonal alterations. We therefore hypothesized that hypothalamic responses to challenges of energy balance may differ between lean and obese animals.
