Investigation is made into the elastic stability of a cantilever-supported shell which is cut out from a circular cylinder with a specified boundary shape. This shell is found to be mostly in a state of membrane stresses under various loads. Based on the assumption that strain-displacement relations stay linear until buckling takes place, linear buckling analyses are conducted by varying basic parameters according to shell shapes; FEM formulation is adopted on the basis of Galerkin type in a
