As a basis for clarifying the influence of low humidity on drying of skin, the distribution of vapor resistance of horny layer was determined from the literature values of the thickness of horny layer for each segment of body surface. Under the assumption that the resistance is proportional to the thickness of horny layer, using the prevailing values as the average of whole body, the resistances for hands and feet were determined to be larger and those for the other parts smaller. In addition,

As the results, the influence of air velocity less than 1m/s and that of clothing less than 1clo were not significant on the total resistance. However, it was suggested that for the body part whose vapor resistance of horny layer is smaller than the average, the influence of clothing resistance might not be negligible for the evaluation of skin drying due to the evaporation to the ambient air.
