Cross Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) deals with retrieving relevant information stored in a language different from the language of user's query. This helps users to express the information need in their native languages. Machine translation based (MTbased) approach of CLIR uses existing machine translation techniques to provide automatic translation of queries. This paper covers the research work done in CLIR and MT systems for Marathi language in India.
