The article is dedicated to the problem of artistic understanding of trauma experience in W.G. Sebald's prose, exemplified by his essay "The Natural History of Destruction", novels "The Rings of Saturn" and "Austerlitz". ... e analysis of Sebald's novels. Particular attention is paid to the therapeutic aspect of writing. The aspect is connected with the need to highlight the dialogic relations within the text. As a result of the study, it was found that the narration in Sebald's prose is based on a dialogue (between the characters, between the author and the reader, on the dialogue of images and verbal text). This type of construction is one of the possible options for composition of narration, giving access to the artistic expression of traumatic experience, which in other cases is inaccessible to those who write about trauma (P. de Mendelssohn, A. Schmidt).
