The article is dedicated to the problem of artistic understanding of trauma experience in W.G. Sebald's prose, exemplified by his essay "The Natural History of Destruction", novels "The Rings of Saturn" and "Austerlitz". A brief analysis of Sebald's reflection on the German trauma literature, which Sebald, as a literary critic, problematized in his lectures and essay, is presented.
