This paper presents LOEDAR, a novel low-cost error detection and recovery scheme, for Montgomery Ladder Algorithm based Elliptic Curve Scalar Multiplication (ECSM). The LOEDAR scheme exploits the invariance among the intermediate results produced by the algorithm to detect errors. The error detection process can be carried periodically during ECSM to verify data correctness, and will recover the cryptosystem back to the latest checkpoint upon detecting errors.
