VERTICAL DISTRIBUTION OF THE SNOW VOLE CHIONOMYS NIVALIS (MARTINS, 1842) (RODENTIA, ARVICOLIDAE) IN ITALY
2002
Hystrix
unpublished
An analysis carried out on the altitudes frequented by the snow vole (Ckionomys nivalis) in Italy shows that this Rodent is more common above 1000 m a d. chiefly in the belt ranging between 1501 and 2000 m. Nevertheless, due to its petricolic habits, it is also present at lower altitudes if the soil is suitable. The causes of its vertical distribution are also discussed after a comparison with data of other European countries.
