Cristobal were observed at the time of the earthquake to be covered by clouds of, to all appearance, gaseous vap o u r; aud the Padre Bravo, Curate of Lilio, asserts, th a t the movement of Banajoa was so awful to behold th a t residents of th a t village, situated at the base of the mountain, feared th a t it would fall over and bury them beneath it.
