This paper discusses the use of Dublin Core application profiles at the British Library as part of a resource discovery strategy. It shows how they can be used to control the proliferation of metadata formats in digitisation activity and provide interoperability at a high level between diverse legacy systems. A technical architecture is described. This allows the use of Dublin Core based metadata to support crosssearching of multiple disparate databases.
