OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study is to determine the effect of the increasing age of men on volume, concentration and progressive motility of semen parameters and the role of them on male infertility. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 2866 semen analysis of 2088 male patients who admitted to an andrology laboratory of a training and research hospital between 2007-2009 were retrospectively analyzed. The relation between increasing age of men and volume, concentration, total sperm count and

RESULTS: The volume of the semen was determined in groups as 2.67±1.37 mL, 2.75±1.38 mL, 2.31±1.21 mL respectively. The volume was significantly lower in the third group when compared to both the first and second groups (p=0.001). Total progressive motility was higher in first group (% 52.94±3.90), according to the second group (% 52.46±3.50) (p=0.01). Concentration and total sperm count were not significantly different between groups. CONCLUSION: Semen volume was lower in men over 40 years old. Total progressive motility was higher in men under 30 years old. Concentration and total sperm count did not change according to age.
