From the 1960s the organization of European Economic Community has been influenced more and more by the regionalism. The importance of the spatial development and the goals of polycentric city network concepts have became more powerful from the beginning of the 1990s. more » ... mphasize the inportance of the establishment of a well-balanced, polycentric city network system concerning sustainable development and competitiveness. This paper aims to survey the important milestones of the formation of the European and Hungarian well-balanced, polycentric spatial policy, especially the ones of the polycentric settlement development. Also the realization of the Hungarian well-balanced, polycentric system will be analyzed by the outputs of the regional economic activities, specially in the South-Great-Plain region.
