Ferrofluids are colloidally magnetic fluids. Nanoparticles are suspended in are carrier fluid. It exist two different ferrofluids, ionic and surfacted ferrofluid, depending on the colloidal stability. The nanoparticles in the ferrofluid are building chain-like structures in magnetic fields. In this paper I represent the measurements on ferrofluids in homogeneous and inhomogeneous magnetic fields. For the analysis of the different processes in the ferrofluids I use the Raman- and the
more » ... and the NMR-Spectroscopy. The experiments shows, that the density change and the formation in chain-like structures are the dominant processes in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. Additionally to the building of chain-like structures I observe the formation in a superstructure in a homogenous magnetic field. In cooperation with a group of the theoretical department we simulated the processes in a homogenous magnetic filed in an ionic ferrofluid. Here we find good agreements with the experiments.
