Abstract Frequently, Aristonothos' name appears in discussions involving the production of Greek pottery of the Archaic period, especially related to issues of movement of people and knowledge. In this debate, characteristics were created that resulted on an artistic persona and his work, the subject of this paper. More specifically, here will be discussed the basis of the information regarding Aristonothos, such as his skills as an artist, his name, his origin, the space that he worked as potter, and his work itself. The evaluation of these features allows us to think about the firmness of certain assertions in the recent literature, and what are the key elements to the discussion of the limits to understanding Aristonothos as a person, and his work.
