The United Kingdom international and national compliance towards Arms Trade

The United Kingdom, being one of the top arms exporters, has been selling arms to Saudi Arabia which has been using them for its war against the Houthis (A Shiite militia backed by Iran) in Yemen. Saudi Arabia started the war in Yemen in 2015 after the Houthis launched a ballistic missile towards Riyadh which resulted in minor damages and no casualties. Arms trade is an internationally acceptable business, especially after the establishment of the Arms Trade Treaty in 2014 which formed rules for this trade to continue with respect to various human rights and without any risk that the end user would use them unlawfully. This study aims to investigate the process of arms trade, particularly between U.K. and Saudi Arabia; and examine whether the UK is complying with its international and national commitments towards the Arms Trade Treaty and other legal instruments.
