Arthrocentesis was developed as a modification of TMJ Arthroscopy [37] . It was later found that the mechanical lysis and lavage of the joint was often successful in treating various internal derangements [19]. This procedure is extremely effective in eliminating joint adhesions , removal of inflammatory cytokines, correcting joint function at an early stage and reduction of pain [27] .
