Nighttime satellite imagery from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Programs' Operational Linescan System (DMSP OLS) is being used for myriad applications including population mapping, characterizing economic activity, disaggregate estimation of CO2 emissions, wildfire monitoring, and more.
