The article presents the results of a qualitative research conducted by the author on the journal segment of the space of economic science in the South of Russia. The hypothesis about compression of intellectual space of economic researchers of the South of Russia, presented in its magazine segment, which is confirmed by circumstantial facts, is suggested in the work but requires a deeper quantitative check. The presented author's estimates can serve as a basis for further quantitative research of the scientific space of the economic science of the South of Russia and qualitative conclusions regarding the academic world of economists in the South of Russia, its structure, and dynamics.
