1998 iii Cover Design: Martin C. Rabenhorst The soil on the cover is in the Kentuck series (Fine-silty, mixed, active, mesic Typic Umbraquults) found on the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain. The profile exhibits hydromorphological features related both to organic matter accumulation and to depletion and segregation of iron oxyhydroxides.
