The strong behavioural and cognitive effects of nicotine have been known for centuries. Actually, the ligand-gated ion channel superfamily, specially which nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, are extensively studied. The understanding of their harrnacology and physiology rnay help to understand sorne relevant brain processes(neurotransmítter regulation and nociception)and rnany diseaseswhere these channels have been involved (rnyasthenia gravís, Parkinson, Alzheirner, schizophrenia).
