Using a design andysis of layout and motif depicted on three polychrome types (Ramos, Babicora and Villa Ahumada) housed in the Royal Ontario and Wilderness Park Museums, this study will address: I ) the issue of trait overlap in the Chihuahuan typology; and 2) the existence of decorative patterns within the ceramic tradition that may retlect temporal and spatial variation, as we11 as the impact ofcuItural forces. With the recent increase in projects undertaken in Chihuahua, the incorporation of museum colIections is a timely and necessary endeavour in order to understand the roIe that this region played in No& American prehistory.
