The process of aging attracts several disciplines, as it is definitely a significant social phenomenon. Growth in numbers of the aged is reflected particularly in the social field, moreover there are radical changes in social services for seniors. The aim of this paper is to identify two fundamental characteristics of social services: the types and the capacity of the facilities for the elderly in the communes and specific situation in this field in Nitra region in Slovakia.
