Core network micro-mobility solutions resolve L3 handovers and may be based on the Internet Protocol (IP) or on Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS). When a micro-mobility solution triggers the L3 handover before the L2 handover, it is called predictive, otherwise reactive. The outage period due to the handover is smaller for predictive solutions.
