shown on both the schlieren pictures and the pressure distributions taken on the plane cascade. These flow separations are less severe on the annular cascades, either the fixed or the rotating one. The difference is partly attributed to wind tunnel side wall boundary layer separation and, in the case of the fixed annular cascade, theoretical calculations using shock wave induced boundary layer separation criteria give correct predictions of blade pressure and suction surface pressure
