The Influence of Age and Gender on the Students' Achievement in Mathematics

The purpose of this study was to determine if age and gender influence the achievement in high school mathematics. This study utilized the student's grade point average (GPA) for mathematics during high school years to measure achievement. The data for this study came from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) High School Transcript Study (HSTS) 2005. more » ... ment in mathematics. The study compared the mathematics achievement between age groups and gender. The comparison revealed that there were statistically significant differences in mathematics GPA scores between age groups and gender; however the effect sizes were small.
